Busman's Holiday - Chase Trails on Tour

The week before Easter saw eight of the Chase Trails regular builders head north of the border for a week's holiday riding Scotland's famous 7stanes trails. We’d also arranged to meet up with a couple of the guys responsible for the trails to exchange notes and experiences.

Ghost Stane at Mabie

Basing ourselves in a cottage 2 miles from the Ae forest, the red routes at Mabie, Dalbeatie, Ae, Glentress, Kirroughtree and Innerleithen were all bagged. Each trail is different in character and we’ve come back with lots of ideas to incorporate into our trails.

Rock garden at Kirroughtree

A general consensus agreed that Kirroughtree was the best trail overall and the preferred post ride grub was Mabie’s “Shed Burger”. It’s a shame ‘The Slab’ and ‘Terrible Twins’ at Dalbeatie wouldn’t fit into Bruce’s Landrover ….

On the way back, a diversion via Whinlatter to ride the ‘Altura Trail’ saw the only rain of the holiday making the wet slate surface very sketchy. A total of 100 miles of trail riding were racked up over the week – not bad considering it was a holiday!

Next Big Build Day - Sunday 8th May

Just to let you know that our next Big Build Day will be on Sunday 8th May. We will be working on a new entrance to the first section of 'Follow the Dog'.

In previous years, the when the summer concerts have been held, we have had to close this section. With the new start well away from the concert site, we'll be able to keep the trail open. Meet outside Swinnertons, Birch Valley at 10am for an easy walk up to the work area. As usual, food and drinks will be provided at lunch time.

No trail building on Sunday 17th April

As the regular trail builders are taking an early Easter holiday to visit our relatives north of the border, there will be no trail building on Sunday 17th. We're going to ride as many of the 7stanes trail centres as our legs and lungs will allow and bring back a few ideas for our trails.
